Sir Bulstrode Whitelocke (1605-1675), shown here, was the only surviving son of Sir James Whitlock (1570-1632). He became a lawyer and supporter of Oliver Cromwell and was appointed ambassador to Sweden in 1653. He survived the restoration and left seventeen children by three wives. He wrote extensive Diaries that were published in 1980.
